(Honolulu, Hawaii, December 15, 2003) – First Hawaiian Bank today promoted three long-time executives to Vice Chairman. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Walter A. Dods, Jr. announced the promotions of:

Gary Caulfield, manager of the Information Management & Operations Group.

Tony Guerrero, head of the Retail Banking Group which includes the bank’s 61-branch network.

Chief Financial Officer Albert M. Yamada.
“It’s a pleasure to recognize and reward the professionalism and hard work of these three Hawaii-born leaders, who have done so much to make First Hawaiian Bank the largest in the state. They represent the next generation of the bank’s leadership,” Dods said.
Caulfield, who was born in Honolulu, is a graduate of Kalani High School, the University of Hawaii and the School for Bank Administration at the University of Wisconsin. He joined First Hawaiian 20 years ago. Since 1995, he has been responsible for information technology and bank operations, including the data center that handles all data processing for First Hawaiian and its Mainland sister institution, Bank of the West.
Caulfield is a Trustee and Past President of the Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation and a member of the Board of Governors of the Hawaii Community Foundation. He is a member of the Star Systems Advisory Board and has served as Chairman of the Hawaii Bankers Association’s Operations and Legislative Committees. He is a former Chairman of the Hawaii Community Development Authority and Palama Settlement Board of Trustees.
Guerrero was born in Honolulu and is a graduate of St. Louis High School, the University of Portland and the Bank Administration Institute at the University of Wisconsin. He has been with First Hawaiian since 1967. For the last 20 years he has been responsible for the branch system, and he also oversees bank properties, the telephone banking center and retail planning.
Guerrero has been President of the Friends of Hawaii Charities since its inception in 1997, just completed a term as Board Chairman of the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau and is Board Chairman of the Aloha Stadium Authority and Oahu Transit Services. He is also President-Emeritus of St. Louis Education Foundation, former Board Chairman of Child & Family Service, current Vice President of Na Koa Football Club, and a current director of the Hawaii Community Foundation and YMCA-Waianae. He was named the Small Business Administration Financial Services Advocate for Small Business for Oahu in 1999.
Yamada, born in Hilo, is a graduate of Hilo High School and the University of Hawaii. Since 1997, he has been Chief Financial Officer, responsible for all financial affairs of the bank. He has more than 25 years of experience in finance and previously served as President of both International Savings Bank and Pioneer Savings Bank in Honolulu. He joined First Hawaiian after Pioneer was merged into the bank.
Yamada currently serves as a Trustee of Mid-Pacific Institute, director of the Japan-America Society of Hawaii and a member of the Advisory Board of the University of Hawaii School of Accountancy.
