Aloha Harvest is a non-profit organization that rescues quality excess donated food and delivers it free of charge to social service agencies feeding the hungry and homeless in Hawaii. It is modeled after City Harvest program in New York City.

This November marks the organization's 14th year of service to the community. Since inception, it has collected and distributed more than 11 million pounds of food (perishable, non-perishable and beverages) that would have otherwise gone into our landfills.

The food has been donated by more than 650 donors such as restaurants, caterers, hotels, food distributors, businesses and others. The food that is picked up each day is delivered that very same day; it does not store any food.

Aloha Harvest currently partners with 166 social service agencies varying from shelters, transition homes and food pantries to programs that tend to all ages from keiki to kupuna.

Aloha Harvest helps to feed more than 73,000 individuals each month. Its trucks are on the road seven days a week.

Jennifer Robbins spoke with Kuulei Williams, executive director of Aloha Harvest, to find out more about Aloha Harvest's mission.
