Watch Out for a New Threat Called “GodFather” Malware
Posted on Feb 11, 2026
We want to let you know about a new kind of malware (a harmful app) called GodFather. This message is just to help you stay informed. There have been no known problems with the FHB Online® and the FHB Mobile app system or its users.
What Is GodFather Malware?
GodFather is a type of malware that targets Android phones. It tries to steal your banking login, security codes, and even the password or PIN that unlocks your phone.
In the past, this malware showed fake login screens to trick people. But the newest version is much more advanced. It runs a real copy of your banking app inside a hidden area on your phone that it controls. That means everything looks normal, but the malware is watching what you do.
How It Works
- A person downloads a fake or harmful app from a source that isn’t trusted, like outside the Google Play Store® and the Apple App Store®.
- That bad app scans the phone to find your real banking and payment apps.
- When the user opens their banking app, the malware secretly launches a virtual version of it.
- The person still sees their normal app, but everything they do is being watched.
- The malware can then steal login info, security codes, and even take control to make fake transactions.
Because it uses a clean version of your app and hides its actions, it’s almost impossible to tell anything is wrong.
Why This Matters
Fraudulent apps can look and function just like the real thing, making them difficult to spot. Even standard security tools may not always detect them. That’s why it’s important to be mindful of what you download and how you use your device.
How You Can Stay Safe
Here are some simple ways to protect yourself:
- Only download apps from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Keep your phone updated with the latest software and security updates.
- Don’t click on strange links in text messages or emails.
- Use security tools like Google Play ProtectTM or other trusted antivirus apps.
- Be careful with app permissions. Don’t allow access unless it’s needed.
